Expert Make-up Tips from Napoleon Perdis!!

The city of Houston was taken by storm, when the vibrant, boisterous and all around adorable celebrity make-up artist Napoleon Perdis came for a visit last week. If you don't know his name, you should. Not only did he have his own show on TLC, but he has also made up the faces of celebrities like Debra Messing, Evangeline Lilly, LeAnn Rimes, Amanda Bynes, Miley Cyrus and oodles more.

The fabulous Napoleon was kind enough to hang out with me at the St. Regis, share his stellar cosmetic line NPset (now at Target), and teach me some expert make-up tips and tricks. Want to know his secrets? Here they are...

Mascara First
Before anything else. Really. Don't apply a drop of foundation or concealer until you swipe that mascara wand. When I asked why, Napoleon explained, "mascara gives you the map for the make-up for your face." Once your eyes get that wake up call, you may find that you don't even need much additional make-up. How brilliant!

Update your Look
So many of us get cozy with certain colors or products and never try anything new. Sometimes even for decades! Don't allow yourself to get stuck in a cosmetic rut. I played with the NP Denim Set (pictured below) over the weekend, and found Napoleon's palette to be an excellent cure for make-up monotony. The colorful palette even includes instructions for applying both a.m. and p.m. looks. SO much fun.

Play with color
While we were playing with NPset, Napoleon applied a touch of orange shadow to my eyelids. Orange?? Why would I ever try orange eye shadow? Well man I wish I would have. It was subtle, made my eyes pop, and just plain looked amazing. What a shock!

Don't go far boys and girls, I've got lots more of Napoleon's expert ideas to share. Check back very soon!

Toasting with the Dinosaurs

This past Friday, I danced with a T-rex, shared Cabernet with an Ankylosaurus, and just had a ball! Sound like fun? You can do it too! The Houston Museum of Natural Science has their Mixers and Elixirs event every Friday this summer, through August 26th. They've got some tasty hors d'oeuvres, fully stocked bars, and always a live band. Just be sure to bring cash money with you, as the bars are paper money only. Here are a few photos we snapped while breaking it down prehistoric style!

Ophelia's Kitchen

Here's a little peek at how we West Elm-ified our kitchen this past weekend. The chairs were a much needed purchase. Our previous kitchen chairs were found in a high school theatre prop shop (seriously, they totally were), and they were just plain scary. As you can see, our friend Ophelia thinks that the upgrade was specifically done for her comfort.

If you only do 1 thing this week...

Head over to West Elm in Highland Village. They are clearing their floor displays for new merchandise, and are selling a ton of the floor models for an absolute steal! I almost passed out when I saw some of the prices. I ended up leaving with a set of these scoop back chairs (in white) for my kitchen. Will post some photos lata...

Got a Disorganized Daddy?

Does your Pop have a tangled spider web of techno cords? He needs this. It's the Sanctuary Power Charging Station and Desk Valet. It has 12 built in connections that are comptable with 1500 types of devices. All 12 connections lead to one little, discreet A/C adapter. Ahhh an organizers heaven.

VOTE FOR SISU!

Does he look like an Oliver, Bo, Astro, or Sisu (means "determined" in Finnish)??

The Houston Zoo is taking a poll for the name of our new Sea Lion Pup, and I need your help. Though I like the name Oliver, Sisu is adorable and appropriate for this lucky little bugger. Therefore, as of today I am launching the VOTE FOR SISU campaign! YIPPIE! Go read his amazing story, and Vote (for Sisu:-)

Boheme

After battling a stubborn sinus infection for the better part of two weeks, I am finally feeling healthy enough to get back to blogging! Hooray...and thank goodness, because there are so many fun thing going on this upcoming week! In my recovery, I did manage to visit a new watering hole this past Saturday that I fell in love with! (Antibiotics + Alcohol=bad Beth, bad!) It was my first time at Boheme, and I can't wait to return. It was a warm, inspiring wine bar
with the best Sangria I've ever had (and I don't even really like Sangria!) Look at how fabulous it is...
