Simon Fashion Blogger Preview

Last Thursday, the fashionable bloggers of Htown gathered at the Galleria to check out the latest trends that will be traipsing down the Simon Fashion runway this weekend. Can you guess what trends we found?

The darling Monica Guerrero-Abney of Classy and Fabulous getting some shots of the latest trends at Saks. Trends to watch this season from Left to Right: Color blocking, sleek summer trenches, coral everywhere, and white on white....or really anything that Monica wears:)

Embrace bold colors...especially on your feet!

Chunky global baubles are here to stay for 2011

Graphic prints are hot! Tone it down with a buttery soft suede jacket.

Champagne & Cupcakes with Caycee Black

Caycee Black. A name that every Houstonian should know by heart. Why? This Clear Lake High School grad/dancer/genius fashion designer (who now resides in NYC) has just released a "print perfect" spring line which you can peruse this Thursday at Tootsies. Pieces to look for: her striking black and whites, tie dye influenced tops and frocks, and elegantly draped necklines. You can meet Caycee in person at Tootsies while sipping champagne and nibbling on cupcakes.

Girl on Top

Alright you young, professional gorgeous women of Houston. Here is an upcoming event that you do not want to miss! Career expert, and best selling author Nicole Williams, is coming to Houston to promote her new book Girl On Top, and is throwing a big party for all of us in the process. That's right, I'm invited, and so are 50 of you!

So what's in it for you?? The first 50 of you who register for the Girl on Top LIVE event will receive a VIP pass to an evening of:

  • Chatting up the women in Houston you need to have on speed dial
  • A gift bag valued at over $500 (full of stuff you'll actually use)
  • An exclusive 40% discount on The Limited's brand new business-chic attire (This guarantees that I will be leaving with shopping bags)
  • Free-flowing Girl On Top Cocktails (those of you who are long time readers know that this is probably the #1 reason I'm going)
  • Career advice from Nicole Williams. I've spent forever on her website, and she is the bees knees, the bomb diggity, and totally off the chain. (Not to mention the fact that people pay big bucks for her words of wisdom)

When is this thing?

Date: 10.30.09

Location: The Limited at Galleria II

5085 Westheimer, Suite 3723

Time: 6-9pm

Ta Da!

I'm already getting giddy as a school girl about Halloween! Don't be surprised if you see an overkill of Halloween themed posts for the next month. I would love to toss these creepy pillows from Tada Boutique all over my house. They would be a perfect way to set a haunted mood, and entertain on for All Hallows Eve.

Expert Make-up Tips from Napoleon Perdis!!

The city of Houston was taken by storm, when the vibrant, boisterous and all around adorable celebrity make-up artist Napoleon Perdis came for a visit last week. If you don't know his name, you should. Not only did he have his own show on TLC, but he has also made up the faces of celebrities like Debra Messing, Evangeline Lilly, LeAnn Rimes, Amanda Bynes, Miley Cyrus and oodles more.

The fabulous Napoleon was kind enough to hang out with me at the St. Regis, share his stellar cosmetic line NPset (now at Target), and teach me some expert make-up tips and tricks. Want to know his secrets? Here they are...

Mascara First
Before anything else. Really. Don't apply a drop of foundation or concealer until you swipe that mascara wand. When I asked why, Napoleon explained, "mascara gives you the map for the make-up for your face." Once your eyes get that wake up call, you may find that you don't even need much additional make-up. How brilliant!

Update your Look
So many of us get cozy with certain colors or products and never try anything new. Sometimes even for decades! Don't allow yourself to get stuck in a cosmetic rut. I played with the NP Denim Set (pictured below) over the weekend, and found Napoleon's palette to be an excellent cure for make-up monotony. The colorful palette even includes instructions for applying both a.m. and p.m. looks. SO much fun.

Play with color
While we were playing with NPset, Napoleon applied a touch of orange shadow to my eyelids. Orange?? Why would I ever try orange eye shadow? Well man I wish I would have. It was subtle, made my eyes pop, and just plain looked amazing. What a shock!

Don't go far boys and girls, I've got lots more of Napoleon's expert ideas to share. Check back very soon!

L+J Industrises

I am busting at the seams, because I just discovered a new, one-of-kind Houston furniture line that has me jumping for joy. L+J Industries. A couple of twin sisters named Lynne and Julia Schafer find vintage pieces, jazz them a bit, and give us striking furniture overflowing with personality. Imagine sitting on the above tuffet while putting on a pair of fancy shmancy shoes on your way to the royal ball. Ahh... heaven. Tiara and Prince Charming sold separately.

Crikey!!

How fun is this slithery reptilious scarf? To me it says, "I'm practical about my warmth, but I still like to party." You can find the Vasquez Gator Scarf, along with a slew of other road kill neck wraps at Hello Lucky online, or off of Studewood Street.

Trend Watch: Let It Snow Houston!

Houstonians only see snow once in a blue moon, but thanks to a reemerging trend, we can see it all year long. That's right, the good old fashioned snow globe is all over the map this season. Supposedly originating in France in the 1800's, they didn't become popular in the U.S. until the 1920's. Ever since then, snow globes have ping ponged between being a luxury item and being in the "touristy souvenir" category. However, this year snow globes are on like Donkey Kong. They are popping up in some of my favorite shops, and adorning the homes of design trackers across the globe.

One Eyed,One Horned, Crocheted People Eater
