I was tickled pink to be on the Fox26 morning show last week sharing my current favorite things in Htown.  Lots of love to Cakewalk and Charmed Circle for making sure I looked fly.

If you are wondering what you might find at tomorrow night's 81 Poppies Pop Up, this my friends is a little sample.  In the interest of being prepared and organized, I created this post as my own personal dressing room list, but I have no doubt that I'll find a few other pretty pieces to add to the pile. Oh yes, I'm sure I will:)  Come play, details here.

Southward Apparel

Whew!  I'm back:)  Did you notice I stepped away for a bit last week?  At the last minute I had to head to San Antonio, which seriously recharged my batteries. While enjoying my breakfast at the Bistro overlooking the river one morning, it occurred to me that you might like to see the adorable, ultra-soft Texas-chic "t" I found from Southward Apparel.  I am undeniably a t-shirt and jeans chick at heart, so I fell in love with Southward's L.A. trendy meets comfy cowgirl style.  Which isn't surprising since the company was started by two L.A. ladies who are  originally from...you guessed it...Tejas.

Only thing missing from my own personal look:  cowboy boots.  It's wrong, it's terrible, and I'm sure I'll be persecuted for admitting this, but I don't own any (EEK!).  I've lived in Htown almost 7 years, I think it's about time my friends.  Ah well, that shall be a post for another day...

As a side note, Southward Apparel is participating in Shop Small Saturday, so head over to their website and give them some support on the 24th!  The first 10 customers receive 40% off their entire purchase, and everyone with domestic delivery gets free shipping for the entire day.

AND if you like what you see, you'll be happy to know we'll be giving away something pretty from them soon, so be sure to check back:)

Need a running partner?

Do you run, walk, stroll, meander or just enjoy spending time outdoors at Memorial Park? Have you been considering adopting a new pet? Need a new running partner? Friends For Life is making it a whole lot easier to meet your lifetime match with the Running 4 Home program.

The Friends For Life’s Mobile Adoption Van (MAV) provides an air-conditioned, clean and quiet environment transporting up to 33 adoptable animals at a time. Outside windows offer viewing under an awning while inside, adopters get a hands-on visit. With the only city permit to do so at Memorial Park, the MAV is parked near the running trail the second Saturday of each month.

By trading an item such as their car keys or driver’s license, runners can “borrow” a dog to accompany them on the trail. This process helps potential adopters get to know the animal, seeing if they are a good fit. Running 4 Home isn’t just for marathon runners-some Friends For Life dogs prefer just a walk in the park. For cat lovers, plenty of felines hang out in the MAV where runners can come on board and meet them.

The second Saturday of every month.

Upcoming: December 8

Nutella Pull Apart Bread

Like every other woman on the planet, I now check pinterest first thing in the morning instead of Facebook, and can waste away hours "working" on the addictive site finding DIY projects, beautiful interiors, and of course mouth watering recipes.  Man can I find some recipes (go see my foodie board).  I find some of the most deliciously deadly things you've ever laid eyes on. However, how many of them have I actually attempted to create?  Um, zero. Until this past weekend.  Anyone who has stopped by HWC before know that I rarely to never share food stuffs on this bad boy, but I was so proud of my pinterest recipe attempt that I just had to show it off.  Behold....

My version...

So my attempt was not nearly as pretty, but it didn't taste too bad either.  I'm fairly sure it is impossible to mix all of these ingredients together and have an icky tasting dessert, but it was yum.  And the best part, it was ridiculously easy peasy.  See for yourself.

More Casa de Novia

So you guys may have seen my post earlier in the week about the delightful evening with Prabal Gurung at Casa de Novia's Atrium. Well it was an even BIGGER treat for me, because it was my very first ever visit to Casa de Novia. If I owned a bridal shop, I would want it to be exactly like this. And I would want to be exactly like owner (drop dead gorgeous and sweet as sugar) Luvi Wheelock.

Here are a few of my favorite things from the shop, plus as promised, a few details that Prabal divulged about what he's got coming up next:)

With Casa de Novia's owner Luvi Wheelock

So what can we expect next from Prabal?? Well..he was a little tight lipped about next season, but he did reveal that we'll see shorter skirts than this seasons over-the-knee, and a brand spankin' new Resort Line is on the way:) We are waiting on pins and needles:) -B

Jonathan + Beth= Best Friends Forever

...okay, not quite. But I did in fact meet Mr. Adler a couple of weeks ago when he came to Htown on his whirlwind book tour. Love him, love the striped shirt, love the book..love everything! I bought one of his newest releases Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Accessorizing. It is one of the best design books I have ever read! Gorgeous pictures, fresh ideas, and a treasure trove of decor info. I'm only half way through, but here are a few of my fav tips so far:
  • 95% chic + 5% happy - his whole deal. Chic, but with personality. Lay the foundation of good decorating, then punctuate it with a "dash of levity."
  • Remove book jackets to make spines harmonious - basically, covers look messy
  • Conformity is a bore - learn the rules of decorating, then have fun breaking them
  • Weird Works: Design around things you love, no matter how odd or idiosyncratic they may be
  • Don't neglect pillows - they are the exclamation points of your house

So add that book to your list for Santa, as well as his other newbie Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Colors . If you leave cookies and milk, you might even get both.

The Oldest Bar in Houston: La Carafe

Some things are worth repeating. Here's a little blast from the past that every Houstonian must know about. ♥ B

Looking for something new..er..old..to do this weekend? If you haven't already, you must spend an evening at
La Carafe, the oldest drinking establishment in H-town. La Carafe was built in 1847, and has been used as public venue ever since. Over the years, it has served as everything from a bakery to a pony express station. Ever since the 50's, it's been the hauntingly rustic watering hole that it is today.

What I love about La Carafe, is their deliciously affordable wine selection, cozy ambiance, and breath taking view of downtown Houston from the second floor balcony. Adding to the the exciting (but slightly eerie) feel of the bar, they have a tradition of lighting one candle every night after sundown. The result is is a heaping mountain of melted wax, that is more reminiscent of Disney's Haunted Mansion than a local Houston bar. Once you visit, you will continute to return for years to come!

The Search for the Great White

My quest was so simple. A 4ft white Christmas tree to adorn my office window. White trees are everywhere. How hard could it be? Little did I know that I had been cursed. Everywhere I looked, had conveniently sold out. Sure, they will probably get more in, but I didn't want to wait! I wanted my white tree NOW! I covered most of the common cheap Christmas decor avenues: Target, Kohls, and not one, not two, but THREE Garden Ridge stores all to find that the white tree shelf was bare. The search went on for weeks. Then, on a 1 a.m. run for dog food, the heavens opened up, and there it was. A beautiful pre-lit white wonder for $19.99 at the one and only Wally World. The evil empire conquers once again.
