Best Cities for Singles?

Forbes just put out their newest list: Top 40 cities in the U.S. for singles. That's right, if you are single and free to mingle, some cities are actually better you than others. If you are one of my Texan readers, you are in luck. There was some serious Texas representation in the list. Guess who landed in the #25 spot? That's right....H-town baby.

"With a low cost of living and a high rate of projected job growth, Houston is an attractive city to many, not just singles. Houston serves as headquarters for 20 of the best big companies in the country and 19 of the best small companies, according to Forbes."

San Antonio was ranked #27, Dallas at #17, and Austin at #11! Everything IS bigger in Texas...including the singles dating scene. Still searching for that special someone? Click here for the full article of cities for you!

Boheme

After battling a stubborn sinus infection for the better part of two weeks, I am finally feeling healthy enough to get back to blogging! Hooray...and thank goodness, because there are so many fun thing going on this upcoming week! In my recovery, I did manage to visit a new watering hole this past Saturday that I fell in love with! (Antibiotics + Alcohol=bad Beth, bad!) It was my first time at Boheme, and I can't wait to return. It was a warm, inspiring wine bar
with the best Sangria I've ever had (and I don't even really like Sangria!) Look at how fabulous it is...

Kitchen Relief

What took them so long? Finally, we no longer have to clumsily stack our frying pans on top of each other, which almost always results in a messy avalanche. I just bought an organizer (similar to the one above) from Walmart for $8 bucks, and it is the bomb diggity. If you need some order in your kitchen, it receives the H.W.C. seal of approval! (by the way, if you blog about kitchen supplies does that mean you are getting old?...just curious)

Absinthe

It's been a while since I've mentioned any Houston nightlife hot spots, but I have found one worthy. I originally visited there couple of years ago, but after revisiting the other night, I knew blogging must occur. It is called the Absinthe Restaurant and Lounge, and it is one of my happy places. It's a very dark, intimate bar with amazing food (the gourmet pizza's are my favorite), warm cozy ambiance, and knock out cocktails. And yes, they do serve the green fairy...if you dare. They have tons of cushy couches, which totally rock because you feel like you're just hanging out in your stylish friend's living room. I should also note that this would be a perfect after hours spot if you are on a hot date. However, if you and your date drink the absinthe, I cannot be accountable for your actions. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Michelle Obama's Black and Red Fade

Did YOU like Michelle's white one-shoulder gown by Jason Wu? Leave your comment here.

Regardless of your political affiliation, fashion is a universal language. Boy were we excited to see Michelle Obama's daring black and red fade dress by Narciso Rodriguez from his Spring 2009 dress collection. So my question is: Did you love it or hate it? Either way, how exciting that we have a fresh, stylish, and elegantly unobtrusive first lady to look forward to watching. Lemme know what you think!

Reasons to Love Houston....

As Houstonians, we brave months of oppressive, unbearable heat. And for what? Why do we put ourselves through this torture? It's simple. Flip flops in November. It just doesn't get any better than that. Enjoy the weather Houston (and that extra hour that has been added to your day)!

Get in the Halloween spirit with a little dose of Lucifer! Don't worry, this Hell is a lot more fun than the regular Hell. This hell has a lot of laughs, and most importantly, lots of booze.

It is Pendulum Theatre's staged reading of the original play To Hell with Dante. Six dead actors wandering around the different levels of Dante's Inferno. What would you do? They choose to get drunk, and you can get drunk with them! With wine glass in hand, you can go along on their journey and wittness the Gluttons, Hoarders, Wasters, and a cast of numerous other characters. You'll even get to meet Satan himself! C'mon, like you have anything better to do on a Tuesday night?

The world premiere of this original production be performed as a staged reading October 7th and 9th, 8:00pm at the Silver House Theatre located at 1107 Chartres.

It's in the SAK

Look at this marvelously mod bag I spotted from Texas Beauties! It's handmade from canvas so it's super durable, and has three..that's right count them...three pockets inside as well as a zipper pouch. Plus, have I mentioned that pleats are WAAAY in this season? The printed cotton liner is also super adorable. I just want to fill it with my ipod, a good book, a bathing suit, and fly to an exotic beach for the weekend!

Ecologie Bags: Totally My Bag Baby

It seems like every time we read a suggestion for "going green" in style, it requires us to plop down a crap load of money. Thank goodness for eco-friendly (and pocketbook-friendly) retailers like Ecologie Bags.

This Houston, Texas company is a woman-owned national wholesaler and retailer that makes simple, classic, yet adorable reusable shopping bags. These bad boys are made of non-woven polypropylene, which just means that they are super light, hardy, and resistant to water and dirt. They can also hold up to 35 lbs of groceries (equal to about 4 plastic bags worth), and are so much more mod than the blah bags with grocery store logos! Are you ready for the best part? Every single designer bag sells for only $3.
What's the big deal about reusable bags? Well, try this on for size. The United States plows through about 100 billion plastic bags yearly. As we know, plastic is not biodegradable, and while waiting in landfills, it gradually pollutes our soil and waterways. You may think you're safe asking for paper not plastic, but think again. According to the EPA, the manufacturing of paper bags is actually worse for the environment than plastic. So..the less bags you use, the cleaner our little planet will be. Still not sold? Check out www.ecologiebags.com for more information. But as for us at Houston's Weekly Chic...it's in the bag.
